the difference
A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine of feminine.
"House" for instance, is feminine: "La casa".
"Pencil", however, is masculine: "el lapiz."
A student asked, "what gender is "computer"?
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer should be a masculine of feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the feminine gender ( "la computadora") because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheque on accesories for it.
(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine ( "el computador) because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. The have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won.

New daughter
For one evening, I had a new daughter. A daughter with a complete make-over. But was it for the best? Well, for that night it was. Amber had a party from school and had to dress up. Wow. Inspired by Lisbeth Salander (Millenium)see first picture, Amber transformed into a .....what can I say? See for yourself! Her entrance was not unnoticed at the schoolparty. :)

Time flies
Everyone knows it, time flies. No really: it IS true. The older you get, the faster time flies by. I do not like being photographed. I always stand BEHIND the camera (not in front of). But someimes I say to myself: go on> say cheese.
Wish I had more pictures of my grandmother. She died at the very young age of 29. My mother was 11 months old at the time. I am reading her letters which she wrote to her own mum and dad (my greatgrand-father and -mother)from the hospital. I treasure those letters, as I get to know her a bit through those personal letters. And then I thought: what the heck> shoot some pics, make something arty and place them on your blog. Because it is MY blog, about MY life and thoughts. See ho time flies: put a photo of me when I was 2 or 3 and one where I was 16 and a few where I am fourty-something. They are taken uhm...just a few minutes ago. VOILA. I enjoy being alive and getting older.

dream house
In 2006 we spent a week in a fantastic holiday house in Denmark, 20 metres from the beach! I just fell in love with that house, with the interior and the way it felt like "home" immediately. Since then, I dream of having such a house. Someday, somewhere...but it will probably only exist in my dreams (and in Denmark). Oh well, need to book a holiday to THAT house again! Simple as that!
